I had the honor of doing a virtual session with a very talented seamstress last week. Lori, the creative genius behind Girls in the Garden, asked me to help her "feel more her age." She and Lynne are blogger friends despite living in different parts of the country. I love how that happens! I've already made so many friends who I've never even met!
After she saw how much Lynne liked working with me, Lori reached out. Since it was a virtual session, I don't have any of my own photos, but Lori was kind enough to take some and send them to me. Here is her post, which details many of the pieces of clothing that she made and more of her thoughts on the process! Thanks, Lori!
When our session started, I was interested to hear what Lori meant by "dressing her age." Was the way she was dressing, in her opinion, aging her or feeling too young? Was this a case of wearing belly-baring tops that would be better for her teenage daughter? No. What we found was that she was wearing great clothing (she made a lot of it!) but sometimes wearing it in ways, well, that she could easily wear in fifteen or more years.
Instead, I worked with her (via Skype) to find combinations that would really show off the incredible pieces that she had sewed in ways that felt fresh, modern, and feminine. Some of the things we did were layer colors from the same family, get her belting at her skinniest spot to accentuate the curves in her body, and play with pops of accent colors.
This was one of the most fun virtual sessions I've done because she was so enthusiastic about trying new things! It's also a lot of fun to work with women in their creative element, and Lori knows clothing, fabric, fit, and color! Take a look at her Top 5 of 2013 to get a sense of how incredibly talented she is!
Here's some of what Lori said about our session:
I loved the virtual session. I wanted more options from my wardrobe from our session, to look at my clothes in a whole new light. I got all of that from our session. I felt right at ease from the start, you are wonderful at that. I thought virtual was great, it was fun and easy to do.

Thanks to @ltbrundage I did a virtual style session with @startclosein. It was so fun, just look at the before (top) and after (bottom). Just adding a stripe knit shirt to my Renfrew. She also wrote
It was amazing, and I have so many ideas on how to wear all my clothes!
