Put a Belt on it!

Put a Belt on it!

Via Hannah

Sometimes I must sound like I'm on a belt crusade across America. Belts! Belts for everyone! The fact is, I don't think a belt is right for everyone and every situation, but! But! There is a compelling case for a belt in many situations. I urge you to pull one out of the closet and add it to the outfit you already have on, especially if it's one that would benefit from cinching in the waist and showing off your narrowest part.

Now, pardon the dressing room selfies, but I've been doing a little faux shopping for you all lately. And I think you'll see what I mean when you compare the two shots of me-one with a belt, one without. I prefer the belt over the jacket here since I don't like to draw so much attention to my bust during a regular day. But, for a date night...

If you're curious, the belts I tried on are from Ann Taylor Loft.

Of course, not everyone needs a belt and certainly not every day, but here is some more inspiration for how a belt can change the look of an outfit, helping you look like more of an hourglass and more polished, too.

The key is: wear a belt over the narrowest part of your body. It's much more comfortable that way, too, since it stays put and doesn't move all around. For some, this will be in the middle of your torso while others will want to move it closer to under the bust.

So you could also consider a top that might cinch in your waist without actually having a belt. I love something like this because it serves that same purpose.

Or something with a line across where you would have put the belt had you been belting it.

Even Michelle Obama knows the value of a well-placed belt! And I loved the belted top on this inspiration board by fabafter40!
