Simple Easter Style

Simple Easter Style

Bear with me. The caps on this post are going wild for some reason!

Dressing for church on easter is one of those things that stresses me out. First, i'm not catholic, like my husband, or even christian, like my mother-in-law. I'm very spiritual, but i was not raised attending any kind of church. Now i find myself spending easter every year with a family for whom going to church on easter is the norm. The first year i went, i almost bailed at the last minute because i had worked myself into such a tizzy. I was so unsure of what people would wear and so worried that i'd wear something offensive. Everything was tossed on to the bed as too tight, too conservative, too casual, too dressy. I think i had a full on suit on at one point. I can't even remember what i wore eventually.

Thankfully, i've now been to church many times, and even on several easter sundays. But i'm acutely aware of the internal pressure we can put on ourselves to wear something that feels special yet natural. Combine that with things like walking half mile to get to a church or basting a special cut of meat in the oven before and after or chasing kids around as they find eggs, and it can be stressful!

Here are my ideas for outfits that you can plan ahead with and not stress out like i did.

If You're Expecting a Little Miracle of Your Own

If it's warm on easter where you live, you're all set just like this. If not, throw a jean jacket over either dress!

If you're ordering, pink blush maternity has some adorable wedges, too!

To a casual easter event-including where there might be an egg hunt

I really like the look of shorts with longer sleeves and a slightly baggy top for women. It keeps the look casual and can be worn with sneakers, but it's more covered up than what we might have worn at age 19. But it's still subtly sexy! I bet you can re-create the feeling of this outfit with pieces you already have. Just choose anything that feels soft and sun-worn.

I'd love this outfit or the romper below with spring's white sneakers. The mom edit has a great post on how to wear them--or not.

To a day-to-dinner easter event

Looking over these, i guess i'm really excited about one or more white pieces for you on easter! I don't think, however, that you have to stay with pastels. I hardly ever wear pastels myself, and i really love the look of white with bold colors. A gorgeous skirt (think anthropologie, shabby apple, torrid, or modcloth) with a simple white t-shirt is ideal for a day when you might go to a service in the morning then meet friends or family later in the day, too. The clutch feels a little fussy to me for easter, and i'd swap in a leather crossbody bag instead. But, if you're going to the w hotel for drinks or something on easter night, clutch it up!

Either way, i'd love you to wear really fun shoes on easter because why not?

  2. I guess it depends on the church...these would all be way too casual for Easter Sunday at my church. Ok for the family Easter egg hunt afterwards, though. And I guess I'm pretty conservative..I would laugh at anyone wearing a romper over the age of 7. Seriously, you're going to have to take the whole thing off to go to the bathroom. That should be a clue.

    1. Haha! That's a fun take on a romper! I love a good jumpsuit myself, but certainly not for a conservative setting. I'd add a blazer and pumps to either the top dress or the patterned skirt for somewhere more buttoned up. Although I'm not a great expert since I've only married into going to church. I'd love to hear your ideas!

  3. When I was young, dressing up for church was a must. I now think people (myself included) have carried the casual too far. I do believe that if you were strapless (I have seen it) or tiny straps, that a sweater or wrap is in order. I think most of the above is pretty much the look I see. (Not the romper.) My favorite is the maternity dress with the lacy bottom. I would adapt that to a non-maternity dress!

    1. I'd wear a sweater because churches are often so drafty! Good reminder!
