2015 Bathing Suit Trends: Cover Ups for All Shapes and Sizes

2015 Bathing Suit Trends: Cover Ups for All Shapes and Sizes

Via Title Nine

In my teens and 20s, the idea of a cover up never occurred to me. What else would you need by the pool or at the beach but a towel? Now, in my 30s, I love a good cover up. Not just because my life tends to lend itself more to going from one activity to the next, and not just because I'm more concerned about sun exposure (which I am), but also because I've realized how stylish they are. They're what makes an ok swimsuit feel special.

Here are some of my favorites for you to consider!

2015 Bathing Suit Trends: Petite Picks

2015 Bathing Suit Trends: Petite Picks

Via Land's End

Hi guys! I'm back. It was a nice long weekend spent with friends and my husband, and we're anticipating a possible snow day on Tuesday, too! But my brain is still looking forward to warm weather, and I have a few more swimsuit picks for you! Last week I had picks for trendy swimsuits and for curvy, plus size figures. Here are my favorites for petite frames.

One Style Every Woman Should Try

One Style Every Woman Should Try

I often read articles with titles like "5 Accessories Every Woman Needs," and they're either one of two things: (1) a long list of everything you could possibly ever have, broken into 5 categories or (2) very specific things that I do not think work for every woman.

A high waist is not a style that will work for every woman, but I'm being up front about that. What I do think is that every woman should try a high waist. And here's how to do it.

Try a high waist under anything. I rarely tuck my shirts into my jeans, for example, so having a high waist on just means that my lower belly is a bit more tucked in.

Or, like the images above, show off that high waist! Try a high waist with a shirt tucked into it. The wide leg here makes the waist the skinniest part of her body and helps accentuate her natural hourglass shape. A variation on this would be to leave the shirt untucked and highlight the waist with a belt (wide or narrow) around the skinniest part of your waist.

I love a woman with bold curves in a high waist, don't you?

I've mentioned my favorite high waisted jeans from Old Navy before, which come in petite and talls. I also love these ripped Curve skinny jeans and these sizes 14-24 from Asos,  and these petite skinny jeans from Asos, too.
High waisted pants are great for petites because they lengthen the legs

Petite-Friendly Fashion

Petite-Friendly Fashion

Hi there, petite readers! I'm talking to you, specifically to those of you who run braless through life, carefree and tiny in the chest region. I don't often focus on your body type here, and I'm sorry about that. I tend to shy away from the skinniest models because I worry about promoting them above all others. I know that you understand, but I don't want to ignore you entirely. You have feelings, too! Let's be friends, ok? Because I recently found a few things at Zara that I think you'll love.

This dress is darling, right? I love that it's denim! And the printed skirt below could work on anyone, but I love the length on a petite size, and I think you could really pull off the bigger print. It's unexpected, and modern!

This fringe dress breaks my general rule about not spending more than $75 at Zara, but I think it might be worth it.

For anyone, including petites, who isn't into showing their arms during the summer, this printed top would be a good choice. I love the idea of wearing it with a camisole underneath-or no bra at all. Ah, the freedom! If only!

Summer Dressing for Petites: Five Under $50

Summer Dressing for Petites: Five Under $50

When I go virtual shopping for you all, I try to think about my clients. I have many clients of different ages, shapes, heights, and lifestyles, and so I'm always on the hunt for items that will fit your needs. Recently I realized that I have neglected my petite readers for awhile so today's post is dedicated to universal styles with an eye toward places that carry good fitting petite clothing. For the rest of us, keep reading! I've linked up to some items that we can all look out for.

1. Printed Shorts

I had a pair of Banana Republic shorts like the draped pair above once, and they lasted for about eight years through bike rides, beach trips, and probably to work in the retail world. Banana is a good choice for many women because they offer various lengths and sizes 0-16. Also, they're not under $50 unless they're on sale, but their jeans are incredibly flattering. My mom (who is under the 5'4" petite length cutoff although she'll tell you that she's not!) recently got a pair and sent me several text messages about them! That's a red letter day!
