On Bridal Hair

On Bridal Hair

Did you see this Buzzfeed article featuring women who wore their hair natural for their wedding day? It really got me thinking about something that has been on my mind since we got married a few years ago. While I'm not the first person to write about short hair for brides, I do have a personal experience with this.

At the time we got engaged, I had chin length hair, and I immediately began to grow it out. I think I didn't feel like I really had the option to keep it short. It sounds silly to say that now, but I bought into the idea that I'd have more versatility if I had longer hair. In the end, the way that I felt on our wedding day didn't feel quite like me, and I wish I had at least considered keeping it short or even cutting it shorter.

Of course, a wedding day often feels a bit like theater, not quite like real life, but I wonder if having hair that I identified as my own style would have helped me feel more grounded?

I really love the images I see lately of women rocking their own hairstyles on their wedding days, whether it be short or natural or long and a weave! I hope they feel like themselves. They seem like they do!

My advice to you, whether you're getting married, attending a wedding, or just headed to the salon? Look back at pictures of yourself that you like the most, and start there. You just might surprise yourself! Because, in the end, I loved our wedding, and I DO look like myself, even if the hair isn't quite me. There's no hiding goofiness!

Monday Roundup

Monday Roundup

This Virginia wedding looks gorgeous and full of life and fun, but I'm also sharing it with you because one of the brides has the most perfect back to a pixie cut you'll ever see. If you have or might ever want a pixie, save this image! For some reason, the perfect length in the back is hard to find!

Betty was sharing this image for the sunglasses, but I can't stop looking at that perfect, just-had-a-popsicle lipcolor! Divine. The key to replicating this look at home? Make sure your skin looks flawless and don't wear any blush or bronzer. Let the color shine.

You may have figured out by now that Byron Katie is one of my major gurus. I loved this from her blog! If you start listening to her podcasts, reading her books, and/or watching her videos, this will crack you up at the truth of it!

Have a wonderful Monday!

My Future Pixie Cut

My Future Pixie Cut

As my dear friend Erika would say "since I know you're all sitting on the edge of your seats..." Well, maybe you're not, but what I'm thinking about today is cutting my hair very short! It hasn't been pixie length for many years, and I'm ready for the ease of it.

So, since it's Friday and who doesn't like to look at pretty pictures on Fridays, here are some of my inspiration photos! I've realized that with my fine hair, I need to be careful with not fantasizing about short cuts for women with thick hair. I've also learned that I like either blonde (too much work) or very dark (more do-able) pixie cuts. What about you? What are your lessons learned about your own hair?

This is the perfect back, I think. Not too shaved, just enough movement. It's hard to achieve, though, since it stays this length for such a short period of time!

This back is a bit longer, but also a good shape.

My fine hair will look more like this in the front, I think.

 Love this. Love her!

Short Hair & Makeup For Winter Celebrations

Short Hair & Makeup For Winter Celebrations

Sarah, one of my best friends in the entire world is celebrating her love and commitment in February. She's got an incredible sense of style, and so I was very flattered when she asked me to put together some hair and makeup ideas for her.

There she is on the left with her partner in the bow tie. I adore them. As you can see, Sarah's got incredible, bright eyes, a pixie cut, and arms full of amazing tattoos.  Here are some ideas for her-and for anyone else with short hair who wants to put together a special look for a party, a wedding, or even a holiday party!
