A New Official Favorite Lipstain

A New Official Favorite Lipstain

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I had the best weekend and can't wait to tell you more about it soon! But for now, it's all about my new love interest...

This is an update to a post that I wrote awhile ago when I decided to take some good advice that I've heard over and over again but wasn't quite ready to take: put products on your face that you could eat. Ok, so the real advice is only put things on your skin that you could eat, but I'm just not ready for that yet. I always felt like it had to be all or nothing, but I realized that's just silly. Something better for my skin would be better than nothing, right?

I started buying a few Tarte products, but I was about as optimistic about them as I have been in the past about natural deodorant, which is to say not at all. I've frequently purchased random skincare and makeup products at natural foods stores over the years, and I have found them to be just ok. These products are much better for my skin and my body, and they actually work very well.

In particular, I LOVE the matte lip stain. To the extent that I now own three of them...That's why I had to do a follow up post for you guys.

The color above is fiery, and I also love the Lively and Hope shades. Let me know if you try one and what you think! And nope, not a sponsored post. Still don't do those. Not that famous!

Prepping for Vegas, Baby

Prepping for Vegas, Baby: Hair color, lip stain, and comfy pants

Last week, I went with my husband to Las Vegas, and I promised you some pictures! I posted some to Instagram, and others are here for the first time. We've been there many times by this point because he often has work functions out there, and we like to spend time there together before or after those. It's an odd fit for us in some ways because we're not really club people, and I don't gamble at all.

But, we do love to eat well, see shows, and hang out by the pool so that's mostly what we do when we travel there!

Here's how I prepped for our trip: I haven't dyed my hair in all of our years of TTC, and I figured it was about time to do something more fun with my hair. Here's my before, during, and after. She warmed up my brown and added some sneaky underneath highlights that I couldn't seem to capture on film. They're there-I promise!

Then, on the morning I flew out to meet my husband, I suited up in my comfiest pants and my travel hat (Marshalls, men's section). I wanted to show you my lip stain, but somehow I ended up looking a bit like Michael Jackson with a duck face.

What are your rituals around going on a trip? I love to pack in advance, wear something warm enough for the plane, and put on fun makeup even for an early flight. I like to feel pretty when I deplane, is that silly?

Beat Back the Winter Blues--with Reds

As a Vermonter, born and raised, I have to admit that I roll my eyes a bit at all the focus on the cold weather these days. It's winter. It's cold. To me, that's a given. But, that doesn't mean that I enjoy the colder months-I'm someone who runs cold, and I tend to get a little blue during the grayer, colder months, even though I no longer live in the far North.

One simple way I've found for keeping my spirits up? Red lipstick. I know; it sounds silly. But here's the idea: when I was in school I would always dress up whenever I had a big paper to write or a final exam coming up. I still do the same thing: on days when I least want to go to work, I'll dress up most. It helps me to feel perked up, more ready to face the day.  Even jeans and a t-shirt suddenly feels French with red lips, while my default all-black outfit looks less dreary, I like to think. You should give it a try! Check out how beautifully it works on different skin tones!
