In Honor of Pantone's Color of the Year 2014: Radiant Orchid

In Honor of Pantone's Color of the Year 2014: Radiant Orchid

Thanks for reading over my silly posts the past few days! I'm writing this from San Antonio, Texas where I have spent a fantastic long weekend celebrating my best friend's birthday and her daughter's first birthday, too! There is nothing as incredible as sitting with friends-old and new-in the warm sun.

I couldn't stop thinking about you all these past few days! I had a virtual client last week, and I put together some outfits and organized my friend's closet here, but this has been a light week as far as styling goes. I've missed you! And while holiday parties and black and gold and glitter have been on my mind, so has...radiant orchid. I'm sure you've read that Pantone has named "radiant orchid" its color of the year for 2014. I have been very influenced in the past two years, both by emerald and tangerine tango before it so I'm paying close attention. I also LOVE that it's called "radiant orchid." What a whimsical, happy, and yes, made up sounding name! I'm ready to embrace that in the new year!

What this means is that it's not too early to embrace the broad spectrum of purple that has already started popping up everywhere. It's fresh, springy, a bit more pink than a classic purple, and it works for everyone. Here are some ways I'd recommend we all embrace the radiance in radiant orchid.

Borrow from the men's department and wear this baseball t-shirt a little baggy with dark jeans, just as it's styled here.

Bring the shade into the bathroom (or bedroom!). Nothing makes me more likely to take a nice bubble bath than having something incredible to slip on after.

Wear the color somewhere everyone will likely default to black-like an office party or other conservative setting. Or, wear it on your nails!

Add purple (doesn't need to be as pink as the pantone hue) to your arsenal of cardigans and wear it with everything from jeans and a t-shirt to navy to metallics and beyond. If you have any cardigans that are feeling sad they're so worn, it's time to say goodbye. Or layer on a nice bright vest on top even during these cold months!

Add it to a contrasting color for maximum impact-and an instantly spring-y feel.

Get it on your feet! If you, like me, don't own a pair of Hunter boots, this might be the year-and the color. I've loved them for a long time and have often thought that they'd be the ideal boots for walking our two enormous Bernese Mountain Dogs. Especially since our nine-month-old puppy loves to puddle jump!

Or, if you don't mind the price and have reason to wear them, these gorgeous shoes caught my eye, too. The reviews are mixed-some women think they are the most comfortable heels ever while others returned them.

There are not many sizes left in this dress, but it is very, very pretty! And can someone please buy these leggings and send me a picture to make me smile?

  1. It's about this time of year, even though its still gray and dark and wintry (or maybe just BECAUSE it's gray and dark and wintry) that I want to think about bright colors. Oh yeah! According to Ella, I can wear bright colors all year round!!!!
Sorry tho, no radiant orchid leggings for me!

    1. YES to bright colors year round! And I think those leggings might inspire me to exercise more, just because they're so, well, radiant!
