How to Dress for this Crazy Weather
Sull? Fallmmer? Whatever you call it, here in DC area (and beyond, I'm told), we are having some wild weather. One day it felt like fall was here to stay, and everyone had out their sweaters, tights, and booties. Then the last few days it's been hovering around 90 degrees. Personally, I love it. I am one of those few people who loves to be hot. But, it can be a challenge to figure out what to wear to work. Here's my idea for how we can milk this warm weather for all that it's worth while not looking like we're reverting back to July...not that there's anything wrong with that!
Put together "Mullet Outfits" for the week
Now, doesn't THAT sound appealing? Don't give up on me quite yet, though. What I mean by a mullet outfit is one that has two contrasting elements: think a bright, summery color with a tweed or other distinctly fall element.
Girl with Curves does it here with a soft, flowy, white shirt (dress?) on top and nude heels (
party in the backboth very summery) and jeans and a darker, structured bag (
business in the front moving into fall). Make sense?
Here, it's a bright color from this summer on top with a pant that moves toward the emerald trend for fall. It's gorgeous because both are from the same color family. Plus, if the weather changes, you can easily add a cardigan or moto jacket to really move this outfit into cooler weather without much effort.
Wear your fall clothes you're itching to wear, but keep wearing your summer favorites just a little bit longer
The great thing about this way of putting together outfits is that you don't have to officially put your favorites from summer out to pasture just yet, but you can start to incorporate fall items into your lineup since I know you're excited to get into those comfy fall favorites.
Curvalicious Clothes has a great idea here: keep wearing a favorite summer maxi skirt or dress with a long-sleeved shirt over it. The black grounds the outfit in the cooler weather. Add a scarf, light jacket, or hidden leggings in a couple weeks. For now, enjoy those sandals while you can!
GH pairs a summery polka-dotted skirt with a neutral fall cardigan (love the belting, of course) to keep wearing that cute skirt in these in-between weather days. Do you have a summer skirt (or dress) you could move into fall like this?
Shorts
and white?! I can almost hear the resistance from here. Yes, if it is over 75 you can still wear shorts, and no there is no reason to leave white behind after Labor Day. This outfit is a great mullet outfit because it incorporates a fall color family (orange) with gold (warm, fallish) with white. Bam! She's doing something similar with the pink on bottom and leather on top. She gets extra points for mixing stripes with florals and leather with pink.
Whatever you do, have fun with it. Another reason to love summer is that the clothing is so carefree-don't give up on that too quickly!
And if you're not sure what to wear-now or in the cooler months, remember that all personal styling services booked in October are at a special price!
